Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) today announced an expansion of its weekly’s Scan Baltic Express (SBX) service. Since April 1999, two dedicated ice-class ships have been deployed. These are currently the 600 teu OOCL Neva and OOCL Nevskiy.
Commencing in mid May, a third larger vessel with a capacity of 860 teus will join the service. This will allow additional port calls to be added and the port rotation to be revised. From mid May the 21 day schedule will include Antwerp – Thamesport – Hamburg – Gdansk - St Petersburg – Gdansk – Hamburg – Hamina - St Petersburg – Hamburg - Antwerp. This will allow an additional weekly call in St Petersburg, and the opportunity to consider ad hoc calls in other Baltic ports to meet customers’ needs.
The service currently carries not only intra European traffic but also carries OOCL deep-sea cargoes to and from Poland, Finland, and Russia with relay at Hamburg and Thamesport.
Neil Stringer, General Manager, Intra Europe Trade, London said, “ We have built up a very strong position in the market in the last two years based on our own dedicated service. This expansion is a natural step forward. We are excited by the new opportunities to create innovative logistics solutions for our existing and future customers.”
