m.v. OOCL Hamburg Named in Samsung Shipyard, Korea

m.v. OOCL Hamburg, the fourth of the 12 SX-class vessels that OOCL has ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries, each of which has a declared capacity of 8,063 TEUs, was named today in Geoje Shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries, Korea today.

It was a unique and successful naming ceremony with Christine and Katherine, the co-sponsors, who are also sisters. They jointly cut the rope and cracked the champagne bottle to complete the naming of the vessel.

Christine and Katherine are daughters of Mr. John and Shirley Peng, nieces of Mr. C.C. Tung.

"m.v. OOCL Hamburg will be deployed in the Asia/US trade under the Grand Alliance service, one of the most in-demand services in container transportation, especially considering the continuing substantial growth in the manufacturing industry in Asia, creating an ever-increasing source of cargo. With the introduction of m.v. OOCL Hamburg to the service, we will be able to serve our customers’ needs better and more efficiently. " said Mr. C. C. Tung, Chairman and CEO of OOIL, at the ceremony.

The service route of m.v.OOCL Hamburg under the Super Shuttle Express (SSX) service of OOCL Asia/US trade under the Grand Alliance is as follows:

Port Kelang / Singapore / Yantian / Hong Kong / Long Beach / Kaohsiung / Hong Kong / Shekou / Singapore / Port Kelang, a round trip of 42 days.
