OOCL Japan has beaten 1,894 other vessels to win the inaugural Pusan Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries' (MOMAF) Best Qualified One Vessel.
Of the 1,894 vessels inspected, 10 were chosen as 'high-quality' vessels, with OOCL Japan coming out on top.The criteria included a perfect score on more than three occasions when undergoing inspection by Pusan Regional MOMAF, and classification as a 'superior vessel' by the Asia-Pacific PSC network. The vessel had to be less than five years old and hold a clean record in terms of accidents in the Korean Sea.
OOCL was presented with a Symbolic Silver Plate from the Administration of Pusan Regional MOMAF as well as two years’ exemption from PSC inspections at Pusan Port, and favored status for OOCL Japan with the PSC in MOU Regions (comprising 18 countries).

The Hong Kong flagged OOCL Japan is an 'S-class' vessel with a capacity of 5,344 TEUs, built in 1996. It has a service speed of 24.6 knots and is currently deployed on the transpacific China-Korea Express (CKX) service. The Pusan Regional MOMAF administrator was on-board OOCL Japan in Pusan to present the special Silver Plate to Captain Chiu Sun-to on September 17, 2004.
