OOCL Global Data Centre Earns BS7799 Certificate of Information Security Management

OOCL’s Global Data Centre was certified with the BS7799 Certification by Mr Fabrice Egloff the Executive Director of the Société Générale de Surveillance for Hong Kong (SGS). The BS7799 Certification is an internationally-recognized Code of Practice for Information Security Management Systems, adopted by ISO standard to form ISO17799.

Mr Ken Chih, Chief Information Officer of OOCL received the Certificate on behalf of the Global Data Centre. "Our goal in implementing BS7799 is to provide world class quality and secure information to our customers and partners,” he said.

Mr Egloff praised OOCL in its efforts to protect its systems and its information from security breach. “OOCL realizes the importance of managing the security of the information systems and business-critical information.”

“The adoption of information security management system, BS 7799, is definitely a useful tool to achieve higher customer satisfaction, greater convenience in doing business and more reliable services. At the same time, all the staff from the Global Data Centre has demonstrated their total commitment and passion for improvements throughout the process,” he said.

“A proactive security measure, BS7799 circumvents the risk or exposure of OOCL’s most critical asset: its information. BS7799 covers all aspects of security within and between organizations. The standard states a total of 10 control areas (domains), 36 control objectives and 127 detail controls for information security management control. The majority of BS7799 controls are focused on information security risks as they are managed by people, processes and technology.”
