OOCL Yokohama Named at Geoje Shipyard, Korea
OOCL is proud to announce on Thursday, July 19, 2007 the christening of its second in line of the sixteen 4,578-TEU vessels, ordered with Samsung Heavy Industries since 2004.
The newbuilding was named the m.v.
OOCL Yokohama, by sponsor Dr. Jane C K Chan, the wife of Prof. Yue-Chim Richard Wong, Provost of the University of Hong Kong at the Geoje Shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea.
Mr. CC Tung, Chairman of OOIL said in the opening address of the ceremony, “
OOCL Yokohama belongs to our modern fleet of Panamax class vessel. It is designed to transit the Panama Canal from Asia to our important market in the US East Coast. It is also very versatile and can be deployed in many markets such as Australia, Intra Asia and the Middle East and enables OOCL to deliver the exceptional, high-quality services required by our customers.”
The m.v. OOCL Yokohama will be deployed under the AEA1 service, after its initial deployment in KTX1 service in the Intra-Asia region, providing a vital link between Asia and Australia.
The OOCL Yokohama’s port rotation is : Kaohsiung / Hong Kong/ Shanghai / Chiwan / Hong Kong / Sydney / Melbourne / Brisbane and back to Kaohsiung in a 35-day round trip.
Moreover, the first vessel in the line of the sixteen 4,578-TEU series is to be named the next day on Friday, July 20, 2007 at the port of Kobe, Japan. The Group will operate a fleet of 18 of these Panamax class vessels in total once the 16 vessels built by Samsung Heavy industries are delivered, in addition to the two vessels of the same class delivered earlier by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard at the end of 2006.
