OOCL is proud to announce on November 23, 2009, the christening of the eleventh Panamax class vessel in our line of sixteen 4,500-TEU vessels ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries.
The new vessel was christened the m.v. OOCL Nagoya by Ms Gillian Wheeler, accompanied by her husband, Mr Robin Das, Deputy Global Head of Shipping, HSH-Nordbank.
”Having Ms Wheeler as our sponsor for the OOCL Nagoya recognizes the invaluable partnership we have with HSH-Nordbank,” said Mr Ken Cambie, Chief Financial Officer of Orient Overseas (International) Limited, speaking at the vessel’s christening ceremony. “We are grateful for the support that HSH-Nordbank has provided to OOCL in financing both this and a significant number of our other vessels.”

“OOCL Nagoya is named after the vibrant Port of Nagoya, in Japan. The Port of Nagoya is one of Japan’s busiest and most important ports, handling more than 10 percent of Japan’s total trade. The region surrounding Nagoya is home to Japan’s auto manufacturing industry, and the port serves as a major gateway to the rest of Japan,” said Mr Cambie. “I am certain that the OOCL Nagoya, as an ambassador for world trade, will proudly live up to its name.”
“These type of vessels are exceptionally versatile and they help OOCL to enhance the services we offer to our customers. They can be used in our Intra-Asia trade, in our Australia/New Zealand trade and they can transit the Panama Canal,” said Mr Cambie.
