OOCL Once Again Receives BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Gold Award

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) was proud to receive the Gold Award (Services Sector) at the 2021 BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Awards Ceremony held on 17 August 2022 in Hong Kong. This is the third time OOCL has received this prestigious gold award in recognition of its continuous commitment to promoting environmental and low-carbon best practices.

Jointly hosted by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries and Bank of China (Hong Kong) (“BOCHK”), “BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Awards” (“The Awards”) aims to promote active participation in environmentally conscious practices among manufacturing and services enterprises in Hong Kong and the Pan-Pearl River Delta region to further reduce environmental footprints in these communities. This year, OOCL stood out from a record-high of over 820 participating enterprises after three rounds of review by a professional adjudication panel and independent assessors, including on-site assessment, preliminary judging, and final judging.

Mr. Teddy Fung, Director of Trades at OOCL, received the trophy and remarked: “Taking this opportunity, I would like to thank the key stakeholders for their recognition of our efforts. We are very proud of our professional team’s ability to articulate our environmental improvements program. OOCL has consistently taken a leadership role in advancing sustainability, through implementing numerous initiatives to address environmental and business challenges. We are pleased to be recognized for our achievement and commitment in promoting sustainable development in the region. Moving forward, OOCL will continue to create value for our stakeholders and to promote environmental best practices, for the benefit of all society.”

OOCL received a Gold Award (Services Sector) from BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Awards for the third time.

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues are at the core of OOCL’s business and operations.  Over the years, OOCL has been actively realising green operations and initiating various innovative environmental action plans to address the critical environmental challenges, including climate change, air pollution, biodiversity loss, marine environment degradation, and energy consumption. For example, in reducing emissions, OOCL’s wide range of green policies has enabled the company to reduce our fleet's direct greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 45% since 2008. As a responsible corporate citizen, OOCL not only complies with all the industry’s environmental requirements and regulations from authority organizations such as International Maritime Organization, but also actively investigates and explores solutions to serve the needs of low-carbon transition and to meet long-term climate goals.
