Gulf of Aden Surcharge

Dear customer,

we would like to inform you about the implementation of a Gulf of Aden surcharge with effective March 1, 2009. This surcharge will apply to all trades from/ to Asia and Australia/New Zealand and will be applicable for all cargo types (including dry and reefer).
The charge will not be applied for shipments from Europe to final discharge port Jeddah.

Surcharge amount will be USD 20/TEU, payable by freight payer, and is to cover additional costs incurred in transiting the Gulf of Aden. Ongoing piracy incidents in the region have resulted in increased insurance premiums and additional costs for increased speed of our vessels.

OOCL has implemented various measures to ensure security for all vessels during the passage through the Gulf of Aden. Vessels sail the Gulf of Aden at increased speed and whenever possible they will be part of convoys protected by coalition warships.

Please do not hesitate your local OOCL office in case of questions.
