We would herewith like to inform you that shipments of dangerous cargo to/from Thailand can be accepted again with immediate effect.

Dangerous Cargo Bound To/From Thailand can be accepted again
With the announcement No. 4/2554 of the Thailand Marine Department the implementation of the regulations relating to loading/discharging dangerous cargo announced in No. 273/2553 has now been extended by another 60 days as of 11th February, 2011.
We will therefore resume the acceptance of dangerous cargo bookings to Thailand with immediate effect, subject to usual approval procedures.
The situation will be reviewed again nearer to the revised implementation date of the regulations stipulated in announcement No. 273/2553.

IMDG-Code Amendment 35-10 mandatory effective from 1 January 2011
The Japan Maritime Safety Agency now has decided to make amendment 35 mandatory effective from 1 January 2011 with the following exceptions:
- UN 3166/3171
- UN 3166 ( all flammable gas/liquid powered vehicles/ engines, e.g. automobiles) is to be handled as hazardous class 9 and will need a dangerous goods declaration but no placard is required.
However, UN 3166 can be handled as non-hazardous cargo when:
The fuel tank(s) of the vehicle or equipment powered by a flammable liquid fuel is empty and installed batteries are protected from short circuit;
The fuel tank(s) of the vehicle or equipment powered by a flammable gas is emptied of liquefied or compressed gas, the positive pressure in the tank does not exceed 2 bar, the fuel shut-off or isolation valve is closed and secured, and installed batteries are protected from short circuit; or
The vehicle or equipment is solely powered by a wet or dry electric storage battery or a sodium battery, and the battery is protected from short circuit.
UN 3171 is to be handled as hazardous cargo as well but there is transition period provided in "Other exceptions" below.
