Import Rotterdam - SECURE CHAIN - Cargo Release without PIN
Dear Customer,
With the introduction of “Secure Chain," container shipments can now be securely released or transferred to authorized parties electronically via the Portbase Application “Port Community System" (PCS). The use of PIN codes for imports via Rotterdam has already been abolished for shipments from Latin America since March 1, 2024. Imports from North America will follow suit by July 1, 2024, and the remaining regions will transition by the end of this year.
To enable OOCL (Orient Overseas Container Line) to release container shipments for you through Portbase/PCS, you must be registered with Portbase. The use of the Portbase/PCS service called “Cargo Release Manager" is free of charge. Through this service, you can view your released shipments and transfer them to third parties (truckers, rail, customs, etc.). Alternatively, you can opt for the paid service called “Cargo Controller," which offers additional features.
For quick access to the status (payment/documents) and further information about your OOCL shipments, we now have the new platform called “GBCR – Global Cargo Release Application." The shipment data for OOCL shipments is electronically transmitted between GBCR and Portbase. It is essential to have a GBCR account for this purpose due to technical reasons.
Here's what you need to do:
- Register with GBCR
- Register with Portbase/PCS and link your account with OOCL
(customer reference = customer ID on the OOCL invoice – 10 digits) - Submit your release requests via GBCR (no more PIN codes).
We are currently in a transitional phase, but in the near future, the outlined process will become mandatory. There will be no alternative or PIN codes.
