Dangerous Goods (DG) Placard and Marking placement -
Requirement from North American Rail Road

Dear Customers,

In order to ensure the safe transport of hazardous materials, it is necessary that hazardous placarding is visible at all times.  If the placard is not placed in a prominent area on the sides or ends of the container, it is possible they will not be visible if that container is placed in the bottom of a double stack car. When a container is placed in the bottom position of a double stack car the bottom half and corners of the container are not visible.  This could result in an improper or delayed response should an emergency arise.

In order to ensure visibility during the transportation of containers in double stack cars, all hazardous placards, UN/NA identification numbers, and/or markings must be displayed on containers as follows.

·         Container Sides:
At least one (1) foot from the top of the container, five (5) feet from the bottom, and at least five (5) feet from the end of the container to ensure visibility.

·         Container Ends:
At least one (1) foot from the top of the container and five (5) feet from the bottom.

We would like to seek for your kind co-operation in ensuring compliance. Any fine or penalty, in addition to all other related cost/expenses resulting from non-compliance would be on account of cargo.
