Notice to Shippers
Mis-declaration of Cargo
Dear Customer,
We would like to bring you the attention on the importance of clear and accurate shipping information, including but not limited to the commodity description, cargo nature, cargo weight, cargo measurement and/ or piece count as declared by the shipper or its agents, must be provided to OOCL on/before the published SI cuf-off.
The shipper or its agent, in the event that cargo upon inspection by the sworn measurer or local customs is found to have been incorrectly described, weighted, measured and/or counted, shall be responsible for re-rating of any freight and charges due. As per our rule #24, any expense incurred for the inspection and or any customs penalty for such mis-declaration shall be for the account of cargo. In addition, an administration fee US$200 per container will be imposed and this administration fee will be adjusted to US$500 with effect on August 13, 2010.
Safety in cargo transportation is a principal concern of the industry, recently, we found some misdescription of cargo from general cargo (GC) to hazardous cargo (DG) after laden container received/ loaded. We would like to remind you that shipper or its agent shall be liable for the difference in freight and charges due plus an additional liquidated damage to the OOCL at US$2,000 per container. Shipper or its agent shall be further indemnify and hold OOCL harmless from and against all loss, damage, expense, actions and claims for injury to or death of persons and damage to property arising out of such misdescription.
