Notice to Customer

 Proper Cargo Blocking and Bracing Notification

Dear Customers,

We wish to bring to your attention that BNSF has recently embargo a specific customer due to inadequate/improper blocking and bracing of cargo. We would like to remind you the importance of proper cargo blocking and bracing in order to prevent injury to personnel, damage to goods and equipments.

Furthermore, improper blocking and bracing may risk the following consequences: 

  • Refused acceptance of the container into the terminal or rail ramp 
  • Refused discharging at the port of discharge 
  • Removal of cargoes from the container 
  • Incur penalties and extra handling costs 
  • Incur liability on claims

We look forward to your co-operation in ensuring proper blocking and bracing of all cargo loads. Safety in cargo transportation is a principal concern of our industry. As partners, we share a common interest in ensuring all safety measures are upheld so that your cargo arrive the destination safely.

We encourage you and your shipping partners to review the BNSF Intermodal Rules and Policies Guide, paying particular attention to the following items:

  • Loading, blocking and bracing 
  • Prohibited shipments 
  • Restricted shipments
