Operational Restrictions
1. ​Road Limitation
  • Maximum Width - 2.5 meters
  • Maximum Height - 4.6 meters
  • Maximum Cargo Weight
    • Hong Kong Domestic Truck
      • 20' container/ Cargo + Container = 23,000 kg
      • 40' container/ Cargo + Container = 25,000 kg
    • Cross Border Truck from Hong Kong to South China, and vice versa 
      • 20' GP &' RF container/ Cargo + Container = 23,000 kg
      • 40' GP & RF container/ Cargo + Container = 25,000 kg

 


2. Dangerous Cargo Handling
 
  • Hong Kong
    • With the exception of Radioactive cargo, other Hazardous cargo can be handled in Hong Kong Terminals. Per Fire Department, IMO Class 1 must be delivered by lighter along shipped while IMO Class 2 and 3 (HK Cat. 2 & 5) must be delivered within 72 hours
    • For South China transshipment cargo via Hong Kong, Consignee must provide the Chinese Information on/before the ETA of Trunk vessel in HKG, otherwise Demurrage starts on the ATD of Trunk vessel until the day of submission of Chinese Information plus 2 days.
    • For cargo classified as IMO 2.1 (e.g gas lighter), an appointment must be made with OOCL Customer Service team one working day prior to container gate in at MTL/HIT.
    • Arsine, IMO 2.3, UN 2188 is prohibited to load, discharge and transit at Hong Kong.
    • Motor Fuel Anti-Knock Mixtures IMO 6.1 PG6196 UN nr.1649 are strictly prohibited to be handled or stored at Terminals.
  • Macau
    • IMO Class 1-4 is prohibited by Macau-Hong Kong Terminal while handling of Class 5-9 will be subject to prior application and consent of the terminal authority.

3. Customs Regulations and Information

  • Prohibited Articles for Import and Export in Hong Kong

    Prohibited articles are goods the import, export or transit of which are prohibited or controlled under the provisions of the Import and Export Ordinance, Chapter 60, Laws of Hong Kong or any other laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
    Any persons importing or exporting such prohibited articles must apply for licences, permits or certificates from the Government Departments concerned in advance and are subject to the conditions imposed thereof.

Remarks:

  1. Whale / Narwhal, Dolphin, Porpoise / Sea Hog / Sea Pig / Shark / Dogfish and its related products are not accepted in accordance with OOCL cargo acceptance policy.
  2. Hazardous Wastes and/or Waste Electrical Appliances likes Waste Oil; Waste Batteries; Waste Cathode Ray Tubes in Monitor (i.e. Used Monitor / Used Personal Computer); Metal Sludge; Clinical Waste; Waste Paper and Waste Plastics......etc. Please refer to following link for more information. http://www.epd.gov.hk/epd/english/environmentinhk/waste/guide_ref/guide_wiec_cow1.html
  3. Exporter is required either to obtain a permit from EPD or to declare in writing to carrier that the waste does not contain any hazardous waste which is subject to the control of WDO if their cargo is a kind of waste. 4. Transshipment Restrictions / Prohibited Articles via Hong Kong 

Some goods are  prohibited to be transshipped via Hong Kong of which are prohibited or controlled under the provisions of the Import and Export Ordinance, Chapter 60, Laws of Hong Kong or any other laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Cargo is not allowed to discharge or even transit at Hong Kong without valid licence/permit granted by Hong Kong Government Departments concerned.

Below table shows some parts of prohibited commodities of which under licence/permit controlled and at least 5 working days are required for related licence/permit applications, unless otherwise specified.
