Overweight Limitations at Nhava Sheva, Chennai and New Delhi:
· Cargo weight should not exceed container maximum payload.
· (Cargo weight + tare weight) should not exceed rated capacity of vehicle arranged in India.
*Customers must ensure to comply with above vehicle-capacity restrictions. If overload, customers should either (a) arrange vehicle of higher capacity, or (b) offload excess cargo and transfer to another vehicle.
*Customers are solely liable for any fines, penalties and/or extra costs as a result of non-compliance.

- Transshipment is not permitted
4. Dangerous Cargo
- Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT)
- Radioactive materials are prohibited
- IMCO classes 1/7 are prohibited
- For remaining IMO classes, prior permission has to be obtained for good order
- IMCO Class 1 & 7 are not acceptable.

5. Customs Requirements
- Nhava Sheva
- Full name and address of Inbound Consignee/Notify Party/Also Notify Party in the country is required.
- Actual piece count must be declared.
- Import General Manifest must be filed 48 hours prior vessel's arrival.
- Importer Exporter Code (IEC) of the Importer has to be mentioned in the BL for the Import Shipments as prefix to the Importer Name.
- Chennai
- Export Load is only permitted to connect onto feeder vessels duly certified by customs authorities
- Import General Manifest should qualify all details including weight, full style of shipper, consignee or notify party
- Import General Manifest must be filed 48 hours prior vessel's arrival
6. IMPORT Restrictions on Waste Material by CUSTOMS
Effective 1 April 2009, notification issued by Indian Customs in respect of hazardous waste material shipments to India, including the major moving commodity, waste paper. The Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has advised that all future shipments of such commodities must be subject to:
- Permission of the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MOEF)
- Import license issued by the DGFT to the importer/consignee.
Affected Cargo List (Not limited to):
waste electric & electrical equipment (e-waste)
used lead acid batteries (whole or crushed)
end-of-life vehicles
household/domestic waste
mixed paper/plastic waste
waste from household goods (e.g. refrigerators, TV's, disposable/single-use cameras, dry batteries etc)
agricultural plastic (contaminated with pesticides)
USED waste tyres
cables & wire waste
compressors (containing CFC's)
transformers or other equipment containing PCB's
asbestos waste
waste mineral oil (unfit for originally intended use)
clinical/medical waste
outdated products (pesticides, fertilizers, medicines, paints, pigments etc)
metal bearing waste
Consequences of not abiding the notification:
- Cargo can be HELD by the Indian Customs until the cnee fulfill the required formalities.
- Possibility of Abandonment
7. Import Restrictions from CHINA into INDIA
--> Effective Immediate, acceptance of Bookings from CHINA to INDIA (all ports) for the below Commodities should be on HOLD until further notice

8. Import Restrictions on ORE & MINERALS by Indian Railways by Rail only
