OOCL operates a zero defect policy pertaining to the shipment of hazardous cargo, our main concern being safety & the environment. Should any member of OOCL staff identify any discrepancies they will be brought to the attention of the customer concerned and rectification will be requested.
As previously advised, additional information has to be added to DGNs when cargo is booked to or via Canada. The following is an extract from regulatory requirements as issued by Transport Canada:-
Quote - (f) the words "24-Hour Number" or "Numéro 24 heures", or an abbreviation of these words, followed by a telephone number, including the area code, at which the consignor can be reached immediately for technical information about the dangerous goods in transport, without breaking the telephone connection made by the caller. - Unquote
OOCL will only accept the wording A: 24 HR Number or B: 24 Hour Number
DGNs that have alternative wording to that described above will be returned to customers for correction, meaning that the associated shipment may be significantly delayed.
For help on correct DGN completion, please refer to the SITPRO guidelines, however please note that these do not make clear the need to explicitly add a 24 hour emergency contact for Canada. This should be added into the body of the details section.
Please feel free to call your local export customer service office for further details.
