Tropical Cyclone lashed Myanmar
The tropical cyclone Nargis, packing winds of up to 150 miles (241 km) per hour, slammed into Myanmar over the weekend, battered the Irrawaddy delta for more than 10 hours from Friday night and Saturday noon, dumping 20 inches of rain.
Thousands of buildings were flattened as the furious cyclone also ripped power lines to shreds, uprooted trees that blocked key roads and disrupted water supplies in the main city and former capital, Yangon. Communications were down across large areas of the country.
A state of emergency was declared on Sunday across Five central and southern regions -- Yangon, Ayeyawaddy, Bago, Mon and Karen states.
The Myanmar Port Authority had issued order to cease all vessel movement in/out of Yangon port due to serious damages sustained.
All feeder schedules are fully disrupted since all port operations were suspended until further notice.
We shall keep all informed of the latest situation.
