Update on Christchurch earthquake

Focus remains on rescue in the CBD with residents in the suburbs struggling to cope with essential service disruptions.  40% of the city is without power.  Citizens are being urged to stay off the roads with major surface damage due to silt from liquefaction, cracks and traffic lights out.  Fortunately our Christchurch colleague and his family are safe and well.

Lyttelton Port of Christchurch is aiming to have limited container operations available within 3-4 days.  Their current best estimate to get back to their previous operation service levels prior to the 6.3 quake is in 10 days.

Currently, the California Mercury v.267S has been deviated to Timaru to discharge all her import cargoes which will be railed to Christchurch as the situation allows.

We will provide further updates accordingly.

Yours faithfully,
OOCL (New Zealand) Ltd.
