COVID-19 – Import Container Detention Free Time

Please be advised that OOCL will waive container detention incurred during the period which the New Zealand Government imposes a Level 4 COVID 19 Alert, which currently is from 26th March 2020 to 23rd April 2020.

The start clock and end clock on detention will not change and remain as per current customer agreement. If a customers' detention free time ends between 26th March to 23rd April 2020, we strongly encourage containers to be returned, however there will be no detention per day charge up to and including 23rd April. From the 24th April, container detention charges will apply.  OOCL will review our position again before April 16,2020.

For customers with shipments from USA, there is still prevailing FMC contract filing terms & conditions that may apply. “Force Majeure" considerations may be granted due to the Level 4 COVID 19 Alert measures.  With affected cargos from USA we ask that you provide us with a supporting company-specific document to explain that you are not in a position to take timely delivery of your import containers between the period of 26th March till 23rd April 2020 and possibly beyond for the reason of the government-imposed Level 4 COVID-19 restrictions and would like to see that no detention is charged accordingly.

On wharf port storage & demurrage will still be invoiced directly by the terminal operator and is outside the scope of this OOCL detention waiver advice.

For refrigerated cargoes current power & monitoring free time and charges will apply.

OOCL acknowledge that these are challenging times and we look forward to your ongoing support. We trust our import customers will unpack containers and return them as soon as they possibly can to assist in the supply chain demands of our export customers.

If you have any questions, please contact your local OOCL Sales and Customer Service contact.

Yours faithfully,

OOCL (New Zealand) Ltd.
