About OOCL in Pakistan

The Country

Pakistan, the world's fifth most populous country and the second-largest Muslim-majority nation, is a land of rich history and diverse heritage. Its territory, once part of pre-partitioned British India, has been a cradle of civilization since the times of the Indus Valley. Over the millennia, it has seen the rise and fall of empires, from Persian and Greek conquests to the influx of Arabs, Afghans, Turks, Baloch, and Mongols, before becoming part of British India in the 19th century. Since gaining independence, Pakistan has navigated through times of significant military and economic growth, as well as periods of instability, including the secession of East Pakistan, now known as Bangladesh.

With a sprawling area of 796,095 square kilometers and a burgeoning population of 242 million, Pakistan's vastness is nearly four times that of the United Kingdom. Its geographical diversity is profound, stretching over 1,800 km from the warm waters of Gwadar Bay in the southeast to the towering Khunjerab Pass bordering China. The skyline is graced by architectural marvels like the MCB Towers and Habib Bank Plaza, symbols of Pakistan's economic aspirations.

The country's landscapes are among Asia's most breathtaking, ranging from the Arabian Sea's shores to the majestic northern mountain ranges. Home to some of the earliest human settlements, Pakistan's historical sites rival those of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Geographically, it is nestled in South Asia, sharing borders with India, China, Iran, and Afghanistan, and boasts a 1,064 km coastline along the Arabian Sea.

Pakistan is composed of four major provinces: Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly North-West Frontier Province), and administers regions of the contested territory of Kashmir.

At the heart of this nation lies Karachi, the capital of Sindh and Pakistan's largest city. As the financial and commercial hub, and home to the country's largest port, Karachi is pivotal to Pakistan's economy. The city's vast expanse covers 3,530 square kilometers, making it one of the world's most populous urban areas.
