Poland (officially: the Republic of Poland, Rzeczpospolita Polska) is a country located in Central Europe, a member of the European Union since year 2004.
The capital of Poland is Warsaw.
Poland has a total land area of 312 705 square kilometers (6th in the European Union) and population of approximately 38 million people (5th in the EU).
The country is neighboring Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and Kaliningrad Province of Russia.
History and Landmarks
Poland boasts over 1000-year history and numerous historical landmarks like UNESCO World Heritage – listed historical centers of Krakow and Warsaw, Castle of Teutonic Order in Malbork or Wieliczka Salt Mine. The country also boasts well preserved natural landscapes including Bialowieza Primeval Forests being a home to almost extinct European Bison.
Economic situation
Poland is a rapidly developing country, with average yearly GDP growth rate of 4% in the last 25 years.
Local currency is Polish zloty (PLN). While implementation of the common European currency Euro is under consideration, till time no roadmap nor fixed deadline for currency replacement is set.
The Baltic ports of Gdansk, Gdynia and Szczecin – Swinoujscie handle not only domestic traffic but are also a gateway for neighboring countries. Gdansk fulfills the role of the leading regional container hub serving off-line Baltic ports.
Poland is the main gateway on the New Silk Road inland route from China to Europe, with Malaszewicze rail terminal being the busiest entry point on the EU border, transloading containers from broad-gauge trains to the standard European gauge network.

Gdansk terminal is the largest container terminal on the Baltic Sea, capable of handling the World’s largest ULCVs. Terminal is hosting weekly OOCL service from Far East as well as local feeder connections.
