Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Singapore
The Show
From the producers of the legendary “James Bond 007” movies and the classic film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, comes the largest, most exciting and visually stunning musical ever to visit Singapore.
After nearly four years enchanting adults and children alike in London’s West End, one year on Broadway and a record-breaking UK tour, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has started its engine for the flight to Singapore.
Having been nominated for three Olivier Awards including Best Musical and winning Best Musical in the 2003 Variety Club Awards, Chitty went on to break every record at the London Palladium. The longest running show in the history of the theatre, (beating Cameron Mackintosh's production of Oliver and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat) Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is soaring to greater heights and across the world to Singapore.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will be staged at Singapore’s Esplanade Theatre from November 2 to December 9, 2007.
The Story
An ancient derelict racing car, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”, is discovered on a scrap heap by Jeremy and Jemima who persuade their father, eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts, to buy and restore it. After the car's restoration, they take it on a picnic to the seaside joined by Truly Scrumptious, the beautiful daughter of Lord Scrumptious, the owner of a local sweet factory.
However, the evil Baron Bomburst of Vulgaria has intentions to steal “Chitty” for himself. The magical car takes them on an amazing adventure and transforms itself into a hovercraft and aeroplane. Caractacus Potts, together with Jemima and Jeremy, Truly Scrumptious and Grandpa Potts, then try to outwit the dastardly Baron and the evil Child Catcher.
The Logistics
OOCL has earned the reputation of being the premier ocean carrier to sponsor West End and Broadway musicals. In support of the tour, the supplies have to arrive at every destination on time - in keeping with showbiz motto: “the show must go on”.
To carry the show equipment for “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” to Singapore and back to the UK, OOCL has deployed seventeen 40' High Cube containers, one 20’ container and one 20’ flat rack container. OOCL also uses its industry-leading IT to co-ordinate the entire cargo process.
The production team is personally updated at every stage of the transportation chain, ensuring every procedure is transparent and perfectly managed. OOCL's spirit of “We Take It Personally” ensures that the right vessel is reserved, the right equipment is ordered and advance information is provided to the production team of the show to ensure everyone is informed of the progress of the containers.
As the saying goes “In front of stage, timing is everything!” But behind the stage, timing is just as important to ensure that all the equipment and props get to their final destination in time for the show to go on, without a hitch.
