Saturday Night Fever - Defines the Disco Era of the Seventies
 
The musical, Saturday Night Fever, is the Broadway hottest dance musical, based on the film Saturday Night Fever. Released in 1977, the film made Oscar-nominee John Travolta - playing the part of an nineteen-year-old Disco King - an instant Hollywood legend. With music by the definitive disco band, the Bee Gees, Saturday Night Fever set the disco culture of 1970s alight, which is recreated in this sensational theatre version.

This musical extravaganza features 30 of Australia’s hottest singers and dancers and one of the best bands around. The cast includes Adam Jon Fiorentino starring in the role of Tony Manero and Deone Zanotto as Stephanie Mangano.

The Gibb brothers began performing when they were young. Barry started at nine and the twins Robin and Maurice at six. It was after they emigrated to Australia that they achieved their stardom as a teen pop group, earning their first No. 1 in 1966 with Spicks and Specks.

The Story

In Brooklyn, Italian American Tony Manero is a humble paint-store clerk by day. However, after dark he becomes the polyester-clad stallion of the local nightclub. Every Saturday night, Tony slips into his flares, pulls on his huge-collared shirt and captures all eyes through his stylish moves on the dance floor. Outside the club, things are not rosy. At home, Tony fights constantly with his father and has to compete with his family's starry-eyed view of his older brother, a priest. At work, he can’t find satisfaction in his dead-end job. However, things begin to change when he spies Stephanie in the disco and starts training with her for the club's dance competition.

Tony and Stephanie become partners and Tony starts courting Stephanie, but what Stephanie dreams of is another world beyond Brooklyn. She plans to move to the big city, Manhattan and turn herself into a refined and sophisticated woman of the world. Tony also becomes disillusioned with the life he is leading and he and Stephanie decide to help one another to start afresh.
