Shipments arriving into Sydney from Asian & Middle East origins will be subject to a
Congestion Recovery Surcharge - effective 21st November 2011.
The ongoing schedule disruptions caused by Sydney Port congestion and poor terminal
productivity result in significant additional costs to OOCL. The implementation of a
Congestion Recover Surcharge is necessary in order to partially recover some of the
associated costs resulting from the vessel delays, port omissions, and the severe
equipment imbalanced we are currently faced with.
The Congestion Recover Surcharge will be:
USD 100 per 20ft container
USD 200 per 40ft container.
This surcharge will apply to shipments arriving into Sydney from Monday 21st November
and will be payable by consignee.
Unfortunately we expect port congestion and terminal productivity issues to continue in the
foreseeable future. OOCL is in constant contact with key port and terminal stakeholders in
an ongoing effort to push for improvements that will be sustainable and allow for a return to
the weekly fix day scheduled services that our customers expect from OOCL. Once
productivity improvements are evident we will review the withdrawal of this Congestion
Recovery Surcharge.
We appreciate your understanding of this matter and thank you for your ongoing support.
