The Colombo South Harbor Project

The proposed Colombo South Harbor will be located West of the present South west Break-Water in an area of approximately 600 hectares. It Will have 4 terminals of over 1200M in length each, to accommodate 3 berths alongside, depths of 18m and provision to deepen to 23m to facilitate deeper draught vessels of the future. The width of the channel to be 560m and depth 20m, with the harbor basin depth of 18m and a 600m turning circle. The development of phase I is to be carried-out in two stages. The 1st involving infrastructure with public funds, approximately USD 300 million, and the next stage with terminal facilities, which will cost around USD 700 million, with the participation of Private Sector.
