FUMIGATION REQUIRMENT FOR WOOD PACKAGING MATERIALS IN & OUT OF SULTANATE OF OMAN

The Sultana of Oman became a member of WTO and the ratification of related agreements, and as part of its obligations towards the implementation of the IPPC approved standards, particularly is ISPM No. 15, which describes the guidelines for regulating wood packaging material in International trade, it will not be allowed to export any commodity packed in wood with thickness exceeding 6mm unless they are treated by heat or fumigated by methyl bromide gas and bears the official recognized stamp by the Ministry or the authorized private companies.

This requirement applies also to the imported goods to the Sultanate of Oman packed in the same wooden material, which shall not be allowed to enter the sultanate without being similarly treated, and bear the recognized officail stamp.

When wood packaging materials does not carry the required stamp, action may take the form of treatment, disposal or refused entry.
