Earthquake of Magnitude 6.4 Rocks Southern Taiwan
At around 8:18am on Tuesday March 4th, a powerful earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale rocked southern Taiwan terrifying residents, disrupting communications and triggering at least one large fire.
Sixty-four people were injured but there were no casualties. No tsunami alert was issued. High Speed Rail service in southern and central Taiwan was suspended. In nearby Tainan, a fire broke out in a textile factory shortly after the quake hit. Power outages struck some counties in the south, and telephone service in many parts of Taiwan was irregular. Authorities had been instructed to follow the quake situation closely and take steps to mitigate damage and dislocation.
We checked and contacted all our related offices, Terminals , Depots and the Harbor area immediately after the quake. We are pleased to report that operations of all staff and facilities have not been affected by the earthquake.
