Notice to Shippers

New Regulations in Doha Port for Handling of Hazardous Cargo



Dear Customers,


We would like to bring to your attention that following our pre-advice on the new regulations of handling dangerous goods in Doha port dated September 19, 2010, the said port authority has confirmed the regulation to take effect from November 1, 2010 onwards with details as below:

1. All import Dangerous cargo (containerized or in tanks) will be discharged at Doha port on Direct delivery basis with effect from 1 November 2010. All Dangerous cargo (containerized or in tanks) should be pre-approved by the port prior to the container being loaded from the load port. This is irrespective of its class and should be accompanied with the respective IMDG declaration from the shipper & the tank cleanliness report.

2. For Indirect delivery request, if container is to be stored in Doha port, consignee should approach the Ministry of Environment for approval for storing the container at port.  

3. In case consignee is facing a delay in obtaining approvals from the relevant government authorities, they are requested to send a letter addressed to the Director of Port Operations before 1 September 2010 stating their problems so that it would be discussed with the respective authorities & accordingly a decision will be taken whether to discharge the container on a Indirect delivery. Letters must reach the Director prior arrival of the shipment at Doha port.

4. The port will analyze each and every Dangerous Goods requests received from local agents and will reply about acceptance of cargo on case to case basis via email.

5. Export of empty tank containers will not be affected by this in any way.


In this regard, all Booking Party & Shipper are also reminded to provide the necessary approval obtained from the local authority and Consignee’s readiness to take delivery of the cargo at the time of booking. If the consignee is not reachable by our Doha’s office and/ or the consignee contact information is incomplete, cargo will be retained on board and return to the Origin loading port which shipper will be responsible for all the resultant charges.
