Proper Container Blocking and Bracing Reminder
Dear Customers,
We wish to bring to the attention of our customers that BNSF Railroad has recently issued a notice to embargo a specific customer’s cargo from movement on its network due to inadequate/improper blocking and bracing of the cargo. We would like to remind our customers of the importance of proper cargo blocking and bracing in order to prevent injury to personnel, and damage to cargo and equipment.
Furthermore, improper blocking and bracing may risk the following consequences:
- Refused acceptance of the container into the terminal or rail ramp
- Refused discharge of the container at the port of discharge
- Removal and/or transload of cargo from the container
- Incur penalties and extra handling costs
- Incur liability on claims
We look forward the cooperation of all supply chain parties in ensuring proper blocking and bracing of all cargo loads. Safety in cargo transportation is a principal concern of OOCL and our industry. As partners, we share a common interest in ensuring all safety measures are upheld so that your cargo arrives at its destination safely.
We encourage you and your shipping partners to review the BNSF Intermodal Rules and Policies Guide, paying particular attention to the following items:
- Loading, blocking and bracing
- Prohibited shipments
- Restricted shipments
