Road Limitation

  • The weight restrictions on the roads in Tanzania are very strictly adhered to by the Government Agencies to avoid potential damage to the roads.
  • Maximum weight allowable 28 Mtons including container weight.
  • Dimensions of trucks allowed without permits are as follows.
    -Overall width 2.6M
    -Overall height 4.6M from the road surface
    -Overall Length of the rigid vehicle 12.5M
    -Overall length of articulated vehicle 17.0M
    -Overall length of any combination of vehicle 22.0M

Terminal Limitation

  • Terminal Crane Capacity maximum 40 mtons

Transshipment Restrictions

  • Currently transshipment at Tanzania is not allowed and is only subject to approval case by case.
  • Terminal Crane Capacity max 40mt

Dangerous Cargo Restrictions

  • All dangerous cargo under Class 1.0 to class 3.1 have to obtain terminal APPROVAL for handling and they have to be on direct delivery. 
  • Rest of the classes as per IMDG conditions.

Customs Requirements

  • It is Mandatory that all cargo manifest to be submitted/filed to Customs 48 hours before ships arrival at outer anchorage
  • Partial bill of lading for same container is not acceptable as per customs procedure.

Port Regulations

  • The port of Dar Es Salaam has a total quay length of about 2000 meters with eleven deep water berths. The Port handles about 95% of the Tanzanian international trade. The port saves the landlocked countries of Malawi,Zambia,D R Congo Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda. 
  • The Port Of Dar Es Salaam is a Bonded Customs area.
  • Commodities that are banned by the Government are as below :
  • (A) All types or Sand/ORES
  • (B) All types of Hard wood / Teak Logs.
