ANNOUNCEMENT

Submission of Import/Export Statement and Permit
for Liquor under Cap. 109

Dear Customers, 

According to Hong Kong Customs and Excise (C & E) Department, the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance (Cap. 109, Laws of Hong Kong) is amended to reduce the duty rates on wine and liquors with alcoholic strength of not more than 30% to zero. The new law will take effect on 6 June 2008 subject to Legislative Council’s scrutiny.

Under the new law, the administrative controls on the above mentioned wine and liquors will be relaxed. Yet liquors with alcoholic strength of more than 30% will continue to be governed by Cap 109 under the permit control. Please refer to the below table for easy reference:

Carrier is required to submit the Import/Export Statement on liquors with alcoholic strength of more than 30% to C & E under Cap 19 section 22. We would like to seek for your cooperation in complying with the aforesaid ordinance. Please provide clear cargo description in the shipping documents for the type of liquor (for instance, brandy, whisky, gin, etc) and the alcoholic strength. For more details, please refer to the attached Annex or the website of Customs and Excise Department. http://www.customs.gov.hk/
