Customer Advisory - Hurricane Gustav, Tropical Storm Hanna and Hurricane Ike
Please note that as of September 5,Tropical Depression Gustav wind speeds have declined to 25 mph. A flood watch remains in effect in most of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. A tornado watch is in place in Louisiana and Mississippi.
In many locations, electric power is out of service, preventing rail carriers from re-opening facilities.
Tropical Storm Hanna is building in the southern Atlantic area. The National Weather Service predicts Hanna will reach the East Coast north of Charleston Friday, September 5, then the storm begins to track up the east coast through Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and other Northeast states.
The National Weather Service predicts Hurricane Ike will reach the Florida east coast by next Tuesday.
Rail Status
BNSF:
New Orleans ramp is closed. BNSF plans to re-open New Orleans rail facility tomorrow, Friday, September 5. Saturday hours are limited to 0800 to 1200 noon; closed on Sunday; Monday – Friday: 0800 – 1700 hours.
UPRR:
New Orleans ramp is closed. UPRR expects to resume service to/from New Orleans Monday, September 8, 2009.
NSRR:
Norfolk Southern trains have resumed operations between Hattiesburg, MS and New Orleans following the impact of Hurricane Gustav with local yard and customer switching operations expected to follow as inspections are completed and customer operations return to normal. The Norfolk Southern has removed its embargo of New Orleans cargo effective 9/03/08.
The New Orleans gateway is open for interchange traffic between Norfolk Southern and connecting carriers; however some re-routes continue via the Memphis Gateway and will continue until connecting carriers resume operations over New Orleans.
CSX:
New Orleans ramp is closed, CSX continues track inspection and repair. CSX expects to re-open Mobile, AL ramp Sunday, September 7, 2008. No estimate for New Orleans ramp re-opening.
In preparation for Tropical Storm Hanna, CSX has closed its Charleston ramp and cancelled train services to/from Charleston.
