Customer Advisory - Hurricane Ike impact on Houston area

The National Weather Service downgraded Hurricane Ike to a Tropical Storm. Ike has delivered heavy rainfall from the Gulf Coast area including Houston to as far north as Illinois.

BSNF experienced two areas of flood damage and service disruption. The first area is between Fort Madison, Iowa and Kansas City, KS. Both main tracks were knocked out of service over the weekend; rail service over main track #2 was restored 0700 CDT this morning. Rail service between Southern California and Illinois is expected to be delayed up to 48 hours.

The second area of flooding occurred Sunday, September 14 at Marceline, Missouri. BNSF is detouring trains around the out of service area, rail service between Southern California and Illinois is expected to be delayed up to 48 hours.

BNSF and UPRR Houston, TX rail facilities remain closed. Trains from Southern California to Houston are being held along the route until the Houston area recovers from Tropical Storm Ike.

BNSF, NSRR and UPRR New Orleans rail facilities remain open.  CSX New Orleans is closed; CSX continues track inspection and repair.  New Orleans rail operations to/from the West Coast are expected to be delayed up to 72 hours.
