Customer Advisory: Hurricane Ike - Rail Conditions & Storage Relief at BNSF Houston Ramp
Mainline Track Conditions Improve
BNSF has re-opened both main-line tracks near Marceline, Missouri.
The route between Winfield, KS, and Arkansas City, KS, has also been returned to service.
Due to train congestion, customers should expect delays of at least 24 hours on traffic moving through these areas.
New Orleans Intermodal Update
BNSF, UPRR and NSRR New Orleans Intermodal facilities are open and operating normal business hours. CSX New Orleans is closed; CSX continues track inspection and repair. CSX estimates it New Orleans rail facility will be closed for another 9-days. Customers should allow an additional 48 hours of transit for shipments moving between New Orleans and California.
Houston Intermodal Update
As of Tuesday, September 16, 2008, BNSF Houston rail facilities are open; however, they will be operating with limited hours from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. CDT. While the rail terminal begins the process to re-open, please expect reduced train service. BNSF is operating its Houston facility using electric generators, public utility electric power has not yet been restored to many parts of the Houston area. Many customers and drayman do not have electric power, do not have access to diesel fuel nor have all of their employees returned to work.
BNSF Houston Ramp Storage
BNSF is providing storage relief from Thursday, September 11, 2008, through Sunday, September 21, 2008, for shipments stranded at its Houston rail terminal. Fluidity of traffic in the region is key to returning to normal; BNSF asks for our assistance in out-gating units at this facility as quickly as physically possible to reduce ramp congestion. Import rail cargo on the West Coast bound for Houston is being held until BNSF and UPRR re-open Houston rail facilities.
UPRR Houston Ramp Update
UPRR expects its Houston rail terminal to remain closed until Friday, September 19.
