Customer Advisory:  Temporary Suspension in Accepting Dangerous Cargo Bound To/From Thailand

The Maritime Department of Thailand has recently introduced a new regulation requiring all carriers transporting dangerous goods to and from Thailand to provide insurance to cover any third parties who may be impacted by the loading and discharging activities of dangerous goods.  This regulation is applicable for shipments departing or arriving at Thailand ports on and after 11 February 2011.

The proposed insurance, besides other conditions, requires advance payment without any proof of fault and this condition cannot be accepted by our international P & I Clubs.

As such, with immediate effect, OOCL has temporarily suspended booking of any dangerous goods shipments that are expected to be destined, relayed or loaded at Thailand ports on and after 11 February 2011.  This implementation has been put into effect until further notice is received from the Thailand Maritime Department.

We regret any inconvenience to your shipment supply chain this suspension may cause. We will advise further when there is any change to this suspension status.
