Customer Advisory - New OOCL Chassis Policy

Effective September 1, 2011, OOCL will no longer provide chassis for import and export shipments to/from the following locations:

Charleston, SC
Charlotte, NC
Knoxville, TN
Birmingham, AL
Minneapolis, MN
Cincinnati, OH

All motor carriers, either working as suppliers for OOCL or OOCL customers, must provide chassis for these shipments as indicated below. Chassis usage fees for Merchant (CY) moves should be billed by the motor carrier directly to their customer.

Charleston, SC
Inbound shipments and empty containers are interchanged at grounded marine terminals (excluding reefer) and rail facilities. Motor carriers must provide wheels either through their own equipment or they may lease a chassis from one of the major leasing companies.

Reefer shipments at marine terminals will be mounted on DCLI chassis. If the motor carrier has a signed usage agreement with DCLI, they may elect to use the DCLI chassis or provide their own wheels. Charges to flip/lift a container to trucker wheels are for the account of the motor carrier.

Chassis providers at this location include DCLI, TRAC Intermodal and Flexi-Van.

Charlotte, NC
Inbound shipments will be de-ramped onto DCLI chassis at the NSRR facility. If the motor carrier has a signed usage agreement with DCLI, they may elect to use the DCLI chassis or may elect to provide their own wheels. Charges to flip/lift a container to trucker wheels are for the account of the motor carrier.

Empty containers for export bookings are available from the OOCL contracted depot at FSI. This is a grounded facility and the motor carrier must provide the chassis. Motor carriers will not be charged a lift charge at this location.

Chassis providers in the Charlotte area include DCLI, TRAC Intermodal and Flexi-Van.

Knoxville, TN (including Kingsport, TN)
OOCL does not provide CY service at this location. Shipments and empty containers are interchanged at grounded marine terminals in Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA. Motor carriers must provide wheels either through their own equipment or they may lease a chassis from one of the major leasing companies. Motor carriers will not be charged a lift charge at this location.

Chassis providers at Charleston and Savannah include DCLI, TRAC Intermodal and Flexi-Van.

Birmingham, AL
Inbound shipments will be de-ramped onto a CCM pool chassis at the NSRR facility. OOCL’s preferred chassis provider for the pool is Flexi-Van, however, the trucker may declare any of the pool chassis providers. If a pool chassis is used, the motor carrier must have a signed usage agreement with the declared provider. The motor carrier also has the option of providing their own wheels. Charges to flip/lift a container to trucker wheels are for the account of the motor carrier.

Empty containers for export bookings are available from the OOCL contracted depot at Diamond Express. This is a grounded facility and the motor carrier must provide the chassis. Motor carriers will not be charged a lift charge at this location.

Chassis providers in the Birmingham area include DCLI, TRAC Intermodal and Flexi-Van.

Minneapolis, MN
Inbound shipments will be de-ramped onto TRAC Intermodal pool chassis at the BNSF facility. If the motor carrier has a signed usage agreement with TRAC, they may elect to use the TRAC chassis or provide their own wheels. Charges to flip/lift a container to trucker wheels are for the account of the motor carrier.

Empty containers for export bookings are available at the CP ramps or the OOCL contracted depot at Container Base Inc. These locations are grounded and the motor carrier must provide the chassis. Motor carriers will not be charged a lift charge at these locations.

Chassis providers in the Minneapolis area include DCLI, TRAC Intermodal, Flexi-Van and Tires For Chassis.

Cincinnati, OH
Inbound shipments are interchanged at the fully grounded NSRR facility. Motor carriers must provide wheels either through their own equipment or they may lease a chassis from one of the major leasing companies.

Empty containers for export bookings are available from the OOCL contracted depot at ContainerPort Group (CPG). This is a grounded facility and the motor carrier must provide the chassis. Motor carriers will not be charged a lift charge at this location.

Chassis providers in the Cincinnati area include DCLI and TRAC Intermodal.
