Port Operations in Los Angeles and Long Beach (Update #1 for 29 Nov 12)

Dear OOCL Valued Customer:

The ILWU Local 63 Marine Clerks Office Clerical Unit (“OCU”) remains on strike at terminals in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach today. ILWU long-shore locals continue to honor the OCU pickets, and operations are completely shut down at 10 of the 14 terminals in the ports.

While the strike has already had a severe impact on the flow of cargo and on jobs in the harbor community, we are encouraged by the involvement of elected and community leaders who have asked both the OCU and the employers to end disruption and resume talks. In an effort to resolve this dispute, our company, along with the other OCU employers, has offered to enter into mediation on numerous occasions throughout the last two and one-half years. The OCU has consistently rejected that offer. We have renewed that request again. Along with the other OCU employers, our company also remains willing to meet with the union anytime for good faith negotiations with the object of reaching agreements that are fair to both sides.

We continue to take every reasonable measure to meet your service needs. We value your support and our longstanding business relationship. We hope the OCU will reconsider and come to the bargaining table willing to compromise on a fair and reasonable contract.

We will continue to keep you posted on developments.
