Customer Advisory: Hurricane Sandy Update, 06 Nov 2012

Port/Marine Terminal updates as follows:

Global Container Terminal:
The first post Sandy vessel, Hoechst Express v016 (PAX W), completed operation at Global Terminal and sailed out at 10:30 a.m., November 6th. Check their website for more details: http://www.global-Terminal.com/t3/index.php?id=glbl_index.

Port Newark Container Terminal:
The first post Sandy vessel, Mare Atlanticum, is still alongside and working. There were traffic issues this morning at various Port Elizabeth and Port Newark Terminals, however, the Port Authority is expected to remove day light restrictions for truck gate traffic on November 7th resulting in improved traffic flows. New York Container Terminal:
Terminal operations commence today with the first vessel calling since the storm. Check their website for more details: http://www.nycterminal.com/t3/index.php?id=106.

Potential Weather System Impact to NY/NJ
Please be advised that there is a pending Nor’easter warning in effect from Wed night through Thursday morning with winds gusting to 30-40 knots and a storm surge of 2.5 – 4.5 ft.

The following are normal USCG restriction for NY-NJ water ways:
  • At 25+ mph winds, Shooter Island Channel is closed and there is no traffic allowed to NYCT.
    • Due to dredging and blasting operations, the restriction is further reduced to 15 mph, occasionally increasing to 20 mph.
  • At 34+ mph winds, Bergen Point water way closes resulting in no traffic in or out of NY/NJ ports.
