Port of Montreal Strike Update
Effective immediately, the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) and the Port of Montreal Longshoremen Union (CUPE section 375) have announced a seven month truce. Starting today, and during this time, no pressure tactics will be exercised, while both parties will concentrate on negotiations in order to come to an agreement.
In addition, as part of the current negotiations between the MEA and the Port of Montréal's Checkers' Union, an agreement, in principle, was reached this morning. The checkers executive committee will submit this agreement to its members for a vote at a meeting scheduled on Monday, August 24, 2020.
During the strike period, there were several announced diversions of upcoming vessels from the Port of Montreal to Halifax, NS. Individual vessel plans are in the process of being reviewed, with revised ETA's and planned terminal calls' to be forthcoming.
