Vancouver Wildfire Update - July 9, 2021
Pursuant to our recent network update on the wildfires in the Lytton, BC area, the Canadian Minister of Transport issued a Ministerial Order ceasing all train movement, with the exception of emergency fire response maintenance repair between Kamloops and Boston Bar BC for 48 hours. This order took effect at 12:01 am PDT on July 9, 2021 and applies to both CP and CN rail lines routing through the BC interior area affected by the wildfires. Trains already located in the restricted area are permitted to continue to operate for the purpose of existing.
As reference, a copy of the Ministerial Order can be found here: Transport Canada Ministerial Order.
This situation has also significantly impacted vessel operation in the port of Vancouver, with vessel schedules also being delayed and potential port rotation adjustments made.
As noted, there is no rail operation through this area suspending movement of all inbound and outbound cargo originating and destined to the Vancouver area. Significant delays of cargo movement are expected to continue for cargo moving in this lane after the Ministerial Order is lifted.
Local ramps are restricting receipt of cargo at inland locations moving through this region, so please verify with the local rail facility that any prior reservations are still valid prior to truck dispatch.
