Situation at the Port of Nhava Sheva, India - Update 19 August, 2010
This is to inform all concerned that on 19 August, 2010, the thirteenth day after the collision between MSC CHITRA and KHALIJIA 3, traffic in NHV channel is moving slowly, vessel movements are being carried out only during daytime (up to 1900hrs). No sailing is allowed after 1600hrs. The Navy has given a draft restriction for 19 August, Thursday and 20 August, Friday.
Draft Restriction for Thursday is: 10.5 meter (IN) 11.2 meter (OUT)
Draft Restriction for Friday is: 11.3 meter (IN &OUT)
Please note that in view of the progress of the clearance work of the channel, it may take another 30 days for the total clearance. Due to the high current, the salvagers may not be able to retrieve the containers that are submerged in the channel, even though the weather has been favorable for the past week.
Gates for CPX are kept open, but movements are held back due to uncertainty of berthing at GTI and or JNPT.
Below are the details of services and vessels that will affect OOCL customers:
| 1) CIX |
OOCL Le Havre |
Vessel sailed from CLB on 18.08.10 at AM hours with shut out and full steam to catch the window on Friday 0700 hrs, but in today's meeting the Marine was advised that there will be no sufficient convoys on Friday and hence the vessel will not be able to berth. The vessel may berth on Saturday and sail out probably on Monday morning. |

GTI has not given any firm indication for berthing. We are in touch with both JNPT and GTI for berth availability but due to navigational restrictions berthing may be delayed. Final outcome shall be known tomorrow after the berthing meeting. |
We thank you for your patience and understanding of the present situation and we apologize for the possible delay of shipments that this situation may cause.
