The terminals operating at the Ports of New York & New Jersey may experience a labor disruption at the end of December. The contract with the Metro Marine Contractor – a division of the ILA made - is expiring at the end of 2010. As a result of these negotiations, a possible work stoppage may occur.

Further to our previous customer advisories about the EU regulation 1875/2006, effective January 1st 2011, all ocean carriers are required to submit a list of legislation-defined data elements to EU Customs at a vessel's first EU port of call, at least 24 hours prior to cargo loading onboard the European Union bound vessel. The regulation is applicable to all import cargo to or via any EU Port.

OOCL would like to advise our valued customers that as part of the 'Safety and Security Amendment' to the (EU) Community Customs Code, a single registration number for economic operators (businesses or persons) that engage in EU customs activities will become mandatory from 1 July 2010. This will end the "flexible enforcement period". The number is called an 'Economic Operators Registration and Identification number' (EORI).

OOCL has received four certificates of recognition from US government authorities, for our contribution towards cleaner air quality in the Southern California region. OOCL achieved a compliance rate of 100% for the voluntary vessel speed reduction program with the Port of Long Beach’s Green Incentive Program in 2009. OOCL has voluntarily participated in the program since 2007.

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) filed the Interim Final rule for the Importer Security Filing (ISF) “10+2” with an effective date of Jan 26 2009, and a gradual implementation process of 12 months under Informed Compliance.
The period of Informed Compliance will now end on January 26, 2010, after which Importers and Carriers (defined as parties causing goods to arrive in the US) are expected to have full compliance with this rule.
