OOCL wins first place in 2010 Zhejiang Seafarer Skills Competition

OOCL colleagues won first place in the 2010 Zhejiang Seafarer Skills Competition, which was held on September 16-18, 2010 in Zhoushan City, Zhejiang.

The competition was jointly organized by Zhejiang Maritime Safety Administration, the Office of Human Resources and Social Security of Zhejiang Province and was the first competition of its kind to be held in Zhejiang.

The winning team included Master Yan Qi Lei, Chief Officer Guo Feng, Chief Engineer Chen Deng Fei, Second Engineer Zhou Yan Ming, Petty officer Lin Jun and Fitter Xu Yong Zheng. All graduated from ZIMC, a Seafarer Training College sponsored by OOCL, and they have been employed by OOCL since their graduation.

The competition tested each crew’s technical, medical and navigational abilities in three sections: ship berthing operation, marine power plant fault diagnosis and emergency rescue drill.  The judging panel included representatives from Zhejiang Maritime Safety Administration, Maritime Institutes and professionals from the maritime industry.

The OOCL team won all three events in the competition among more than 800 teams, and attributed their success to their perfect teamwork as well as the stringent training received from ZIMC.

“We are proud of our winning team and we believe the skills of our crew members contribute to our success as a company,” said Stephen Ng, Director of Corporate Planning. “It is particularly fitting that our team won this competition in 2010, which has been nominated as the International Year of the Seafarer by IMO. We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge our highly-trained seafarers for their dedication and commitment to safety and security.”
