The People’s Republic of Bangladesh is in South Asia surrounded by borders of India & Myanmar. Bangladesh got independence in 1971 after liberation war with West Pakistan. Population is about 160 million in 2013. It is world’s 8th most populous country.
The official language in Bangladesh is Bengali, though English is widely spoken. The capital of the country is Dhaka, Majority people are of Muslim (90%), Hindus are about 9% & others are about 1%. The area of the country is 147570 Square Kilometer. To the south of Bangladesh is Bay of Bengal & Indian Ocean.
The country is well connected with other countries of the world by Air & also by sea through Bay of Bengal & there are 2 seaports namely Chittagong & Mongla. Chittagong sea port is used for countries 92% import & Exports. Being a spoke port – most of the import & export are transshipped via Singapore, Colombo & Port Klang.
Bangladesh's has many beautiful places to see namely I) Sunderban, the largest Mangrove forest, II) Cox’s Bazar Sea beach, Longest unbroken sandy beach in the world, iii) Beautiful Saint Martin island with coral reefs iv) Ancient famous buildings built by Moghuls in Dhaka iv) The 8th Century Somapuri Vihara at Paharpur, an impressive archaeological site covering 11 hectares.

OOCL has two offices in Bangladesh, one at Chittagong the main Seaport & another in Capital City at Dhaka (some 300 Kilometers North of Chittagong Sea Port. Country Head sits in the head office at Capital city.
Import Cargo services to Bangladesh are offered for Chittagong, Mongla & ICD Dhaka.
Export cargoes are stuffed at Different offdocks & factories at Chittagong & also stuffed in Dhaka factories, Dhaka ICD & Dhaka EPZ. Few exports are also stuffed in Mongla & another districts in Bangladesh.
ICD Dhaka to Chittagong – Containers are loaded on Railway Wagons & the transit time is about 12 – 18 Hours as the railway line is Single line & passenger trains are the priority to move on the railway track.
Two train services are daily for Chittagong-ICD Dhaka-Chittagong for container transportation by rail.
There are new ICT being built & ready to operate in Pangaon about 40 Kilometers SE from the capital. The transportation of containers from ICT-Pangaon will start from October/November 2013 by inland river way using small container vsl of about 150 teus maximum capacity. Transit time from ICT-Pangaon to Chittagong port will be around 18 hours.
Country’s main exports are: RMG (Ready Made Garments), Knit wears, Frozen Foods, Leather, Jute & jute products, Tea, Fertilizers etc…
Main Imports are: Raw Material (Clothes) for RMG, Food Grains, Crude oil, Products, Edible oil, Machineries, Raw Cotton, Papers, Newsprints, Scraps, Chemicals, Tiles, Hard Wares etc…
