2022
- — OOIL has been selected as one of the constituents of the FTSE4Good
Developed Index and become one of the thirty Hong Kong-based
constituents in the Index.
- — OOIL is pleased to be listed in Dow Jones Sustainability Indices as
a constituent of Dow Jones Sustainability Asia/Pacific Index. This
recognizes the company as one of the best performed sustainability leaders
in Asia-Pacific.
- — OOCL won the Distinction Award (Large
Organization Category) of the Hong Kong Sustainability Award 2022 organized by The Hong Kong Management Association in Hong Kong
Convention and Exhibition Centre on November 22, 2022.
- — OOCL was awarded the Best Green Shipping Line at the 2022 Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain (AFLAS)

- — OOIL is proud to be included in the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index which includes the top 30 HK-listed companies that perform best in ESG. OOIL has also been nominated for and included in Hang Seng ESG 50 Index.
- — On August 23, 2022, OOCL once again won the 2022 Singapore Environmental Achievement Award (Regional), which was organized by the Singapore Environment Council.
- — OOCL received the Gold Award of the 2021 BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Awards held by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries on August 17, 2022.
- — OOCL completed the first trial use of marine biofuel on M.V. “OOCL YOKOHAMA” in a 41-day voyage from June
26, 2022 to August 5, 2022.
- — OOCL completed a joint pilot project with PSA Corporation Ltd to
integrate and enhance the flow of container as the first line, which paves
the way for further carbon footprint reduction and will enhance productivity
for Singapore’s haulage community.
- — OOIL has been included in three ESG- / climate-related Hang Seng Index (HSI) indexes: HSI ESG Enhanced Index, HSI ESG Enhanced Select Index and Hang Seng Climate Change 1.5°C Target Index. This inclusion recognizes the company's consistent commitments to sustainability performance regarding ESG risk ratings, conformation with the United Nation Global Compact Principles (UNGC), controversial product involvement and reduction in carbon emission intensities.
- — OOCL participated in 2022 Protecting Blue Whales and Blue Skies Program - a Vessel Speed Reduction (VSR) incentive program that aims to reduce air pollution, fatal ship strikes on whales, and underwater noise from May 1, 2022 to December 15, 2022 in the San Francisco Bay and Southern California regions.
2021
- — OOCL won the ‘Hong Kong Sustainability Award’ of the Large Organization Category at the Hong Kong Sustainability Award 2020/21 Ceremony organized by The Hong Kong Management Association in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on December 14, 2021.
- — In August 2021, OOCL signed the Gulf of Guinea on Suppression of Piracy to address risks of kidnapping and violence when transporting cargo in the Gulf of Guinea and enhance the cooperation across the maritime industry to exchange information on safety and security measures, piracy policies and procedures.
- — In February 2021, OOCL signed the Neptune Declaration on Seafarer Wellbeing and Crew Change – an industry-wide initiative which aims to address crew change barriers and support the health and well-being of seafarers around the world during the COVID-19 global health crisis.
2020
- — Since September 2020, OOCL ceased to accept bookings for hunting trophies to curb the trade of at-risk, endangered and protected species.
- — As proof of OOCL’s long-term commitment and achievements in meeting environmental objectives, OOCL has once again received the gold trophy in the 2019 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE) presentation via an online broadcast on July 3, 2020. This is the fourth time that OOCL received this top honor in the Transport and Logistics sector category.
- — OOCL proudly received the Fuel Efficiency Award at the Seatrade Maritime
Awards Asia 2020 for its achievement in fuel savings and efficiency
improvements. This annual industry event pays tribute to companies with
remarkable achievements in various aspects of Asia’s maritime industry.
This year, the award winners were announced and virtually participated
in the event via an online celebration on June 23, 2020.
2019
- — OOCL was very honored to receive the “Excellence in Environmental
Management” award at the 2019 Lloyd's List Europe Awards ceremony in London on
December 10, 2019. This
awards program is one of the most anticipated events in the industry,
recognizing excellence across the maritime sector.
- — OOCL received the “Hong Kong Sustainability Award” and “Special
Recognition for Outstanding Sustainability Initiative: Environmental Dimension”
at the Hong Kong Sustainability Award 2018/19 ceremony organized by the Hong Kong Management
Association (HKMA) on November 11, 2019.
- — On August 27, 2019, OOCL is once again a proud winner of the 2019 Singapore Environmental
Achievement Award (Regional). This would be OOCL’s third time winning this
award in the same category.
- — OOCL is
proud to receive the “Green Shipping Award” at the Seatrade Maritime Awards
Asia ceremony on June 28, 2019. Highly recognized as one of the
most important events in the industry, this distinguished award celebrates and
recognizes our exceptional accomplishments in environmental sustainability.

2018
- — OOCL is very honored to be the first carrier in the international transportation and logistics industry to receive the Gold Award at the 2017 BOCHK Corporate Environmental Leadership Awards ceremony held at the Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre on 31 May, 2018.
- — OOCL is proud to have received the 2017 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE) Gold Award in the Transport and Logistics Sector category at a ceremony held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 4 May, 2018. In addition to the HKAEE Gold Award, OOCL was also the receipt of the “Outstanding Green Leadership Award”.
- — On 25 April, 2018, OOCL received the new Green Shipping Award from Seatrade Maritime Awards Asia in Singapore. This overreaching award recognises the company’s effort in green technology investment, carbon management, compliance to environmental regulations and promotion in environmental awareness.
2017
- — OOIL takes part in the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) initiative. UNGC encourages companies to align their operations and strategies with 10 universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption, and to act in support of UN goals and issues.
- — OOCL is not only meeting the GHG Scopes 1 and 2 inventory verification requirements that committed in 2016, but also for Scope 3 which focuses on indirect emissions associated to air travel by employees of headquarter offices and as defined in the “Greenhouse Gas Protocol – A Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard”.
- — OOCL has been awarded with the “Certificate of Excellence” and the “Special Recognition for Creative Sustainability Idea” at the inaugural Hong Kong Sustainability Award 2016/17 organized by the Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) on November 16, 2017.
- — OOCL receives top honors at this year's Singapore Environmental Achievement Awards (SEAA) ceremony held at the Singapore Environment Council's (SEC) Conference Day event on October 13, 2017. Presented with the "Outstanding Singapore Environmental Achievement Award", and become a winner in the SEAA Maritime sector category.
- — Between August 7 and October 6, 2017, OOCL has committed to participate in a Voluntary Vessel Slowdown Trial - organized by the Enhancing Cetacean Habitat and Observation (ECHO) Program, a marine life protection initiative led by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.
2016
- — OOIL became to be listed on the “FTSE4Good Global Index.” Established since 2001 the Index is one of the world’s most recognised and respected indices measuring the performance of companies demonstrating strong Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards for investors committed to socially responsible investments.
- — OOCL announced that no cargo bookings for whale, shark, dolphin, and their related products will be accepted with immediate effect. This global policy helps reinforce OOCL’s commitment to sustainability and best practices in the industry.
- — OOCL took a further step forward in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reporting by extending the scope to include container terminals, namely Long Beach Container Terminal, LLC. in the United States and Kaohsiung Container Terminal in Taiwan (China). By extending the data disclosure and verification to the terminals is an excellent example of OOCL’s commitment to sustainability in the global supply chain.
- — On 20th October, OOCL was named “Containership Operator of the Year” in front of hundreds of industry peers at the Lloyd’s List Asia Awards ceremony held in Singapore. OOCL won the award for 2016 among some of the top industry players in the industry, recognising OOCL’s outstanding business performance and commitment to corporate sustainability.
2015
- — OOCL won 2014 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE) Gold Award in the Transport and Logistics Sector category in May 2015.
- — OOCL won 2015 Singapore Environmental Achievement Award (Regional) (SEAA).
- — OOCL was accredited by the Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), an independent business assurance service provider based in the United Kingdom, after checking the carbon dioxide, sulphur oxides , Greenhouse Gas (GHG) (Scope 1) emission levels of OOCL vessels and GHG (Scope 2) level which is associated with electricity consumption of OOCL’s head office.

- — OOCL was accredited by the Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), an independent business assurance service provider based in the United Kingdom, after checking the carbon dioxide, sulphur oxides and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) (Scope 1) emission levels of OOCL vessels.
- — OOCL received the "Environmental Achievement Awards" from the Port of Long Beach.

- — OOCL won the Gold Award, under the Sectoral Awards category (Transport and Logistics), of the 2012 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE) in May 2013.

2011
- — OOCL won the Green Innovative Award by Hong Kong Marine Department in April 2011.
- — OOCL is actively involved in the Vessel Speed Reduction Program developed by the Port of Long Beach and Port of Los Angeles since 2005. Our vessels achieved a 100% compliance rate in reducing sailing speeds within 20 nautical miles of the harbor, and in 2011 that further extended to within 40 nautical miles, in order to help lower vessel emission levels.
- — OOCL participated in voluntary green initiative of At-Berth Clean Fuels (ABC) Vessel Incentive Program offered by Port of Seattle.
2010
- — OOCL signed up to the
Fair Winds Charter, an agreement to switch low-sulphur fuel at berth in Hong Kong, China.

Green Flag awarded by Port of Long Beach for 100% compliance with their speed reduction program, awarding 15% dockage fee reduction recognition, which
we later donated to community charities in Long Beach.
- — Low Sulphur Fuel Use
Terminals Clean Air Program implemented: - — Long Beach Container Terminal (LBCTI converted all of its diesel-powered yard equipment to a CARB-verified alternative diesel fuel. The newly developed fuel is expected to reduce particulate emissions by as much as 46 percent and carbon monoxide emissions by 30 percent.
- — Both Long Beach Container Terminal and Kaoshiung Container Terminal (KAOCT) in Taiwan (China) converted to electricity for large cranes.
- — LBCTI installed Diesel Oxidation Catalysts on all of its yard equipment, reducing emissions from diesel-powered equipment.
- — OOCL Safety, Security and Environment organization established.
2005
