OOCL (Australia) Pty. Ltd. (OAL) Becomes the Latest OOCL Office to Achieve ISO9001:2000 Certification

OOCL (Australia) Pty. Ltd. (OAL) has become the latest OOCL regional office to be credited with ISO9001:2000 certification.

OAL, with offices in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Fremantle and Melbourne, completed an external audit with Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance Australia Business Centre, recently. The auditors reported that OAL was well-organized, with clearly-defined customer focus, structured business systems and processes – as required for ISO certification.

With the exception of a small number of recently-established offices, all of OOCL offices around the world carry the ISO9001:200 qualification, demonstrating our commitment to quality management principles.

Our quality-assurance (QA) journey started in London in 1989 – at a time when the concept of QA was still unknown to most companies. In April, 1993, OOCL (UK) Ltd became our first regional office to obtain the ISO 9002 certificate, which acted as a catalyst for other OOCL regional offices to do the same.

Before long, the majority of our offices had received the certification, with the ISO qualification acting as the spearhead for our quality and process-management drive. Seeing quality as process of continual improvement, OOCL’s regional offices went on to attain further ISO qualifications.

In 2000, ISO9001: 2000 replaced the former 9001, 9002 and 9003 with a single standard: ISO 9001: 2000 with eight Quality Management principles: customer-focused organization, leadership; involvement of people, process approach, system approach to management; continual improvement; factual approach to decision making and mutually beneficial supplier relationships.

OOCL uses the new qualification as a focal point for re-designing business systems and processes from the bottom up, eliminating bottlenecks and inefficiencies, and ultimately implementing standardization, simplification and, wherever possible, automation to every procedure.
