Operational Restrictions

Road Limitation:

·        No restrictions for heights less than 5 meters and weight less than 60 tons.

·        In case the combined height of the trailer + cargo was over 5m, a road study should be done before moving the actual cargo to determine suitable routes for delivering the cargo to its final destination.

·        In case the combined weight of the truck + trailer + cargo was over 60 tons, an approval from the Ministry of Works must be obtained.

 Terminal Limitation:

·        No restrictions when gross weight of the container is less than 38 tons.

·        In case of gross weight exceeding 38 tons, Aqaba Container Terminal should be informed in advance for safety reasons. Note: they have cranes with capacity of 100 tons.

·        Aqaba Container Terminal operates 24 hours on all days of the year, with the following exceptions:

a.      On the first day of Eid Al Fitr, operations stop from 4:00 am – 11:00 am

b.      On the first day of Eid Al Adha, operations stop from 4:00 am – 11:00 am

c.      During Ramadan month, operations stop for one hour at Sohour, and one hour at Iftar

Transshipment Restrictions:

·        Terminal and Customs approval must be obtained in advance with a guarantee letter from the shipping line agent.

 

Customs Requirements:

A.    All documents should clearly indicate full description of cargo, full name and address of shipper, consignee and notify party (postal address is not enough as location is necessary) with name of person in charge, telephone, fax number and E-mail address are also necessary. However, when consignee is a bank, it is not necessary to mention the full address.

 

B.    Cargo on board must match the description on the manifest.

 

C.    Jordan- Aqaba agent must not be stated neither as consignee nor as notify party in the B/L.

 

D.    Differences between the actual number of containers and the number mentioned on cargo manifests will be subject to customs fines, which will be passed over to the line and consequently to the shipping agent at POL.

 

E.    With the exception of cases which are considered as smuggling, customs fine shall be imposed on the surplus or shortage in the quantity of goods listed in the manifest.

 

F.     Any wrong info on the manifest data or any request for modification after being submitted will be subject to a custom fine ranging between JOD 25 and JOD 500 will be levied in accordance with the provisions of the Customs Law.

 

G.    Customs Fine of JOD 50 will be imposed on each container discharged at Aqaba with a Broken Seal.

 

H.    I.M.O. cargo and military cargoes are not acceptable without prior arrangement and the necessary approvals from the concerned Jordanian authorities.
