DP World Southampton - Crane Incident Update

We would like to update you on Monday's gantry crane collapse involving the NYK Themis at DP World Southampton.

First and foremost we understand that the crane driver, who suffered injuries, is in a serious but stable condition, and our thoughts are with him.

The Health and Safety Executive are supervising the ongoing investigation, and have authorised the removal operation of the broken boom and affected containers. Once all the containers are landed on to the terminal and are available, cargo surveyors will be able to perform their duties in regard to validating the cargo status.

At this time our best estimates are that this process will take at least one week. Thereafter we will be able to update customers on the expected completion of export operations and departure of the vessel.

Landside services as previously advised have returned to standard turnaround times.

Shipside operations resumed with 2 berths, 6 gantry cranes and one mobile crane under the authorisation of the HSE. Three further cranes are undergoing inspections and are targeted to return to service this weekend.

For further information regarding ship movements in to and out of DP World Southampton, please contact OOCL Customer Service or refer to our online Vessel Information Board which will show the latest update.
