Bulletin on Rate of Exchange Setting, EORIs and Cargo Weights
Rate of Exchange Setting

Customers are advised that we have changed the way we set vessel Rates of Exchange. Our tariff rules have been amended so that the follow methodologies are employed:

  • For export shipments, payment of freight and charges in the UK and Ireland in local currency is now based on the daily spot rates published by the European Central Bank 10 working days prior to the scheduled departure date of the trunk vessel from load port in Europe.

  • For import shipments, payment of freight and charges in the UK and Ireland in local currency is now based on the daily spot rates published by the European Central Bank 10 working days prior to the scheduled arrival date of the trunk vessel at discharge port in Europe.

EORIs

With one month to go until new EU requirements for inbound cargo on vessels destined for EU ports come into effect, we note that many import customers have yet to provide us with details of their EORI.

It is not mandatory for carriers to send EORI details to customs when submitting advance manifests, but OOCL will send them if they have been given to us. Providing OOCL with your EORI number will reduce your customs risk analysis score when you are a shipment party for shipments in to (ENS) or out of (EXS) the EU.

Click here to email us your EORI details, and here to read our most recent detailed notice on EU Regulation 1875/2006.

Cargo Weights

We take this opportunity to remind customers of the importance of giving us accurate cargo weights when placing export bookings. Such weight declarations are used to plan the stowage of containers on vessels, and variations from these can affect ship stability. As a result, containers that are found to be loaded with higher weights than declared may not be shipped on the intended vessel.

Should you require more information on any of the above topics, please contact your local Customer Service Centre or Area Sales Manager who will be happy to assist.
