To avoid query, cargo delay and possible cost implications we ask export customers to take special care when providing seal numbers on their Shipping Instructions. Cases have recently come to light where manifested seal numbers have differed from those physically attached to containers, but only by virtue of being slightly different in format. These discrepancies have been picked-up and challenged by customs authorities who have indicated fines may be forthcoming.
Seal numbers provided on Shipping Instructions should be full and not truncated. Below are examples of acceptable formats
| Seal Number | Acceptable | Not Acceptable |
| OOLARX5232 | OOLARX5232 | ARX5232 or 5232 |
| OOLJ165310 | OOLJ165310 | OOLJI65310, JI65310, J165310 or 65310 |
Furthermore, all seals used should be stated on the Shipping Instructions. Customers are reminded that declared seal numbers are manifested by OOCL under the Shipper's Load, Stow and Count clause on our B/L, therefore any fines or penalties levied by customs authorities for incorrect, incomplete or missing numbers will be for customer account.
